Salt-R-Us:
Howdy friends,
In the middle of July Rachel and I decided to take a short break from our run-of-the-mill activities in order to relax.
However, it wasn’t long before I set about endeavouring to regain a former condition after sickness.
Suddenly, our time for leisure and pleasure turned to recovery.
The reason for my temporary loss of strength and energy, was because my adrenal gland was having some sort of, well, crisis.
The potassium level in my blood had risen, and my bicarbonate level had dramatically dropped.
My blood pressure had taken a nose dive too.
The treatment was to either increase a medication called fludrocortisone, or take more sodium bicarbonate tablets.
At this point, I was already taking heaps of sodium bicarbonate per day, and my steroid dosage was the most I could take due to the function of my transplanted kidney, so one can imagine my consultants reluctance.
But, hey, ho!
I could, of course, take extra salt in my daily diet, and limit foods which contained a great deal of potassium.
I could also increase my fluids to limit any signs of di-hydration.
Basically, due to having an aldosterone deficiency, my body was losing it’s saltiness.
Anyhow, after ten days of this bout of fatigue, and further monitoring of my blood levels, I gradually began to recover.
Boy, it’s amazing what an extra pinch of salt can do!
Obviously, one must be careful as to not be too excessive, but this worked for me.
It’s interesting how little things can have a dramatic effect.
Bit by bit, I regained strength:
My energy was rejuvenated:
And, I was revived from an inactive state:
So, this got me thinking, yet again.
As Christians, we are not instructed to become salty, but rather, we are invited to stay fresh and salty.
Just consider how salt brings out the natural flavours in our food.
Now, seasoned with the salt of grace, we too could be instrumental in making a radical difference to the mundane:
Building new connections:
Having a positive influence:
Maintaining a genuine interest:
Seeing lives changed for the better.
Remember, salt-R-Us!
That’s who we are:
Acting like an antiseptic, our conversation should be pure.
I guess, that’s something to question thoroughly and closely.
Come-on!
Love kindness.
Preserve the peace:
Speak words of life.
Praise your Father in heaven.
And say, yes!
