Plan Of Action:
Howdy precious friends,
Imagine a life-time of surprises.
There we were, Rachel and me, making plans to celebrate my “quarter century” transplant day.
You see, in the early 1990’s having a pancreas transplant was very much in the pioneer stage.
To have reached this point in longevity is kinda like a miracle, particularly when consultants at the time reckoned that if the transplant functioned, it would only survive at the most for around ten years.
Even so, in 1999 the average was four and a half years.
Today, consultants believe I am probably the longest surviving pancreas transplant recipient in the United Kingdom.
Anyway, no matter how long an organ has survived, most fellow transplant recipients like to celebrate their transplant day.
Many regard it as their second birthday.
Some quietly share the day with loved ones.
Others mark the event with a joyful occasion surrounded by friends.
And, we know of one who even went on an ocean trip.
But, let us get to the heart of the story here.
Due to the fact that such a big mile stone appeared on the horizon, what were we to do?
How were we to celebrate?
Well, we penciled in the Saturday after my jubilee date, as we thought folks would be free.
And, before sending out invitations to the family get together, we purposely left it to one month preceding the event, as we didn’t want anyone to think that we were being excessively forward.
After-all, although we are people of faith, anything could happen, especially when it comes to medical
things.
My medical things!
However, we cannot explain the astonishment we felt when something totally unexpected happen to us.
It seems we left the notification of our celebration a little too late, as other family plans have taken precedence over ours.
For this reason, we are back to the drawing-board.
Naturally, we were disappointed, as we had raised our hopes and expectations.
But, hey, ho!
In the big scheme of things, there is always another day to get together.
Perhaps later in the year, when the summer sunlight appears.
Still, we are not going to let this set-back rob us of our joy in life.
Thankfully, God, our heavenly Papa does not have to start planning something again because His plan for our lives falls short in what is expected.
Just imagine, if He did, He would always be at the drawing-board!
Fortunately for us, we were able to save face, as we hadn’t sent out our requests.
What a difference a day makes!
So, how can we apply this to our faith journey?
I guess, we often make brainstorming options and plans, but Papa’s purpose continues to exist.
For this reason, we should always be willing to adjust or modify our own plans if Papa instructs us to do something different.
This does not mean that our plans are not large enough to consider or notice, but Papa’s timing is perfect.
So, simply take a good, hard look at life.
Think it over.
Judge the value of what is important.
Show generous interest in the preparations of others.
Appreciate one another.
Set Papa’s agenda.
Agree with His plan of action.
Now, celebrate each and every day.
Be eternally grateful.
Come-on!
Say, yes!
