Giving Thanks

Eucharistia:

Howdy friends,

Okay, I’m totally blind.

I’m also a double transplant recipient.

On one occasion I was given just three days to live.

On another I lost my first wife in a car crash.

I’ve had two serious episodes of skin cancer.

And my bladder has packed up.

Still, I’ve got so much to be grateful for.

If anyone needs any excuse to sing a song to God our heavenly Papa, here’s some random reasons why:

Let’s start by …

Giving thanks:

For health and strength, and the joy that every new day brings.

For aspiration, the will to press forward and keep going.

For a good imagination: Vision and creative thinking.

For God-given gifts and abilities.

For doctors, nurses, and technical support workers.

For life in general: The experience of living through the course of events and activities.

For a good sense of humour.

For popcorn.

For each precious moment.

For my grand piano.

For small things, like lemon cup-cakes.

For God-inspired dreams.

For those who impart skills or knowledge.

For jolly good neighbours.

For the loving heart of God our heavenly Papa.

For new opportunities to tell everyone about the amazing things God does.

For a freshly mowed lawn cut by a friend who takes care of the garden.

For the warmth of the sunshine.

For the dimensional phenomenon of the mustard seed.

For every generous heart.

For the Word of God: Expressed through action, sound, and writing.

For every season in life, especially the eternal season of hope.

For special moments to tell someone how much we treasure them.

For corn poppies, primroses, and a meadow of purple clover.

For new revelations.

For the hand of God in all situations.

For a sound mind packed to capacity with good memories.

For mobility: The quality of moving reasonably freely.

For the beauty of the earth, including all creatures great and small.

For a breath of fresh air.

For the right moment to pray with someone.

For a good selection of cheese and biscuits served with red grapes.

For every emergency service, in-land and on the seas.

For encouragement: Hope and support.

For the knowledge of God’s rescue plan.

For a telephone conversation.

For a paid invoice.

For God-given insight.

For fingers and thumbs.

For every gesture of kindness.

For the best night’s rest.

For the sound of the radio whilst eating a nourishing breakfast.

For a party balloon to pop.

For the power of a touch, kinda like a warm hug.

For the busy buzz of the bumble-bee.

For the broad range of human emotion.

For every obstacle which forms and makes us stronger.

For the auditory effect of a woodpecker.

For the spectrum of medicine.

For a good network of healthy, wholesome connections.

For those who produce our food.

For a sincere word from a friend.

For streamers of paper that are thrown around on festive occasions.

For every evidence of spiritual growth.

For a cool breeze near a beck.

For the awareness of being able to hear something.

For relational friendships in the neighbourhood, in the wider community, and all over the world.

For the bedrock of God’s grace.

For whatever the weather.

For vanilla ice-cream without any extras.

For the dawn chorus, and a new song to sing.

For another page to turn in the story of life.

For the miraculous things that surround us.

For common sense.

For day to day provisions.

For a frequent cuppa tea.

For a stop watch that speaks to me.

For the sensation that results when taste buds distinguish flavours.

For a hearty meal shared with friends.

For washed and ironed laundry.

For a distinctive odour, like lavender.

For awesome mates who share the challenges of this journey of faith together.

For quiet times.

For steady-footing, safety, and security.

For a garden bench in partial shade.

For odds and ends and the freedom of choice.

For a tidy pair of jeans.

For uplifting music.

For every heart-beat.

For the consciousness of a commotion caused by a couple of contentious greenfinch.

For the chance to have a hot shower.

For a shirt that fits.

For tangible things, like tactile birthday, anniversary, or thank you cards.

For the power of speech.

For the uniting of God-ordained gifting’s.

For wisdom: Particularly a listening ear.

For the aroma of ginger cookies, and home-made crusty wholemeal bread.

For a faithful God who never quits.

For time to blow bubbles.

For the art of communication.

For a smart pair of comfy shoes.

For the sound of children at play.

For loads of sprinkles used as a topping on trifle.

For a place called, Home.

For a soul mate, My precious loved one, Rachel.

For wonderful parents, who taught me how to behave well, what a privilege to be their son.

For my God-given position and identity.

For siblings.

For aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

For so much love wrapped in practical care.

For the life of each organ donor and their loving families.

For every promise kept.

For these, and many more …

I’m thanking God, no matter what happens.

So, pause for a while.

Join me.

Let’s articulate thanks every chance we get.

Sing a song of praise.

Give God, our big-hearted God a standing ovation.

Carry His heart-beat.

And say, yes!
