Zebedee Doo-dah:
“A favour. Please!
Promise that one of my sons will sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
What a request!
No wonder the other ten followers had feelings of “righteous” anger against the Zebedee brothers.
Moved with outrage – The ten were upset at their ambition, and at their desire to be honoured above their friends.
Things became somewhat quarrelsome!
Actually, one could almost imagine fisticuffs!
What a dilemma!
Ahem!
“Zebedee doo-dah, Zebedee ay;
My, oh my what a blunderful day!
Plenty of thunder heading their way
Zebedee doo-dah, Zebedee ay!”
Come on!
Softly chuckle!
Still, Jesus saved the day.
As He stepped in to resolve the in-fighting – this was His cutting edge response:
“Whoever wants to BECOME GREAT among you will be your servant.
Whoever wants to be MOST IMPORTANT among you will be your slave.”
There. That told them!
Sorted!
All the same, it’s an age old story – when people get a little power – how quickly it goes to their heads!
Likewise, when people don’t get what they reckon they deserve – how down in the dumps they feel!
It’s so easy to cherish exaggerated ideas of ourselves or our own self-importance!
Just so we all know, a humbly spirit, not a lofty status, makes the difference.
Remember, the stuck-up fall flat on their faces, but down-to-earth people stand firm!
So, live in the right way.
Serve God.
Have faith, love, patience, and gentleness.
And also, think of this, if we serve God with the strength, energy, and ability that He abundantly gives – surely, He deserves all the credit!
