Who Is This?

Who Is This?:

He came to find and restore the lost.

He came for those who are rejected from society or home.

He came for those who find themselves in degrading situations.

He came for those who are suffering with sorrow and pain.

He came for those who aren’t in good physical or mental health.

He came for those who move about aimlessly or without any destination, often in search of food.

And the place where this promised deliverer was born, His line of descent, specifics of His life and ministry – were all communicated by the prophets many many decades before His birth – and He fulfilled them all!

Today, we’re reminded of one particular prophetic word by Zechariah – found on the sheep skin parchments from times back yonder.

Yet here and now, in this generation, let’s look at a modern-day paraphrase of those prophetic words:

Shout and cheer, Daughter Zion!

Raise the roof, Daughter Jerusalem!

Your king is coming!

A good king who makes all things right, a humble king riding a donkey, a mere colt of a donkey.1.

Friends, our Saviour fulfilled this prophecy, and His followers documented the event.

And this is the full story of what was sketched earlier by the prophet…

…The disciples went and did exactly what Jesus told them to do.

They led the donkey and colt out, laid some of their clothes on them, and Jesus mounted.

Nearly all the people in the crowd threw their garments down on the road, giving Him a royal welcome.

Others cut branches from the trees and threw them down as a welcome mat.

Crowds went ahead and crowds followed, all of them calling out, “Hosanna to David’s son!”

“Blessed is He who comes in God’s name!”

“Hosanna in highest heaven!”

As He made His entrance into Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken.

Unnerved, people were asking, “What’s going on here?

Who is this?”

The parade crowd answered, “This is the prophet Jesus, the one from Nazareth in Galilee.”2.

Yes, that’s right!

His name is Jesus – the promise of God’s love fulfilled.

He entered Jerusalem to do what He had expressed His earthly assignment would be: to die and be raised again.

Jesus lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death!

The disciples didn’t notice the fulfilment of many Scriptures at the time – but after Jesus was glorified – they remembered that what was written about Him matched what was done to Him.3.

Still, because of what Jesus did, He shows us how much God loves us:

He came to find and restore the lost.

He came for the city executive, those who are engaged in manual labour, the casual worker or even those without employment.

He came for those who are dazzlingly skilled in any field.

He came for those who have stopped functioning and abandoned their dreams.

He came for those who think they’re okey-dokey.

He came for the do-gooder and the wrongdoer.

He came for anyone and everyone.

And yes, it’s worth saying again, His name is Jesus – the promise of God’s love fulfilled.

He came. And He’s coming again!4.

What a promise!

The King is Coming!

Hooray!!
