Unsung Heroes:
According to The Message Bible, when Paul wrote his letter to all the followers of Jesus in Philippi – pastors and ministers included, this is what he wrote:
“Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God.”1.
Paul wrote this letter to encourage the followers of Jesus in Philippi to continue in the faith, and to thank them for supporting him throughout his ministry.
It was probably one of the last letters he would ever write.
Anyhow, Paul was very pleased about the work going on among the folks in Philippi.
It seems that Paul prayed for them on a regular basis.
As he did, he loved to hark back to their allegiance in sharing the Good News of Jesus.
For this reason, his joyful utterance almost got the better of him.
Thus, he had to let them know!
Friends, have you noticed how certain folks can be a real blessing to you?
Particularly if you chat with them on the phone – get an encouraging E-mail – a short text message – a communication in real time over the Internet – or an up-lifting comment via one of those social networking websites intended to connect friends, family, and business associates.
Okay, gone are the days when one would receive a newsy hand-written letter delivered in the post!
Still, every time we remember each other, we thank God for one another.
Don’t we?
Yes?
Hum!
Personally, I can recall a moment in my own journey when my prospects seemed grim, yet those words of comfort, those messages of encouragement, those phone conversations and so on – all contributed to my progress and growth.
Even now, I’m so thankful for those unsung heroes: The friends who show unselfish concern for my welfare.
They inspire me with confidence, and give me courage and hope.
But let’s not take them for granted!
Come on!
Let’s take as a model what Paul did – and let those who we truly love and cherish know why we value them so much.
Let’s break out in exclamations of thanks to God, and take every opportunity to express our feelings of appreciation to one another.
Go on, let someone know today how much you treasure them!
After-all – what good is silent gratitude?
