Only The Carpenter’s Kid

Only The Carpenter’s Kid:

“People think they “know” you because they “knew” you. They can’t accept you have grown since then. Be patient with them, the penny will drop sooner or later!”1.

Some sound advice – but Jesus Himself had a rather different outcome!

According to Eugene H. Peterson: When Jesus finished telling some stories, He left there, returned to His hometown, and gave a lecture in the meetinghouse.

He made a real hit, impressing everyone.

“We had no idea he was this good!” they said. “How did he get so wise, get such ability?”

BUT IN THE NEXT BREATH they were cutting Him down: We’ve “known” him since he was a kid; he’s the carpenter’s son.

We “know” his mother, Mary. We “know” his brothers James and Joseph, Simon and Judas. All his sisters live here.

Who does he think he is?”

They tripped over what little they “knew” about him and fell, sprawling.

They got their noses all out of joint.

And they never got any further!2.

O-boy!!

Ever been there?

Ever felt like you’re only the carpenter’s kid?

Maybe you feel as if you’re not appreciated!

Perhaps you’re taken for granted!

Maybe you’re subjected to superciliousness!

Made to feel inferior!

Well, don’t let the appraisal by others mean too much to you!

Remember this, human beings are human, and they will always have an opinion!

And sure-enough, there will always be those who recall knowledge from memory – especially of when you were a kid!

Persevere.

Don’t lose your cool!

Live an exceptional life.

Don’t hit back!

Instead, be approachable.

And take-heart in this, next time you feel undervalued, remember, God, our heavenly Father loves you!

At the end of the day, it’s God’s opinion that counts, and that’s all that matters!

As soon as everyone gets to “know” this, hopefully, their understanding is reached.
