God Will Make A Way:
This week, as Rachel and I were thinking about various situations occurring in the world, and in the lives of individuals, we began to reflect upon one of Don Moen’s praise songs.
Most Christians who have sung this song do not know the kind of hopelessness from which the lyrics came.
And so, with valued help from new friends at “Wisdom For The Heart” – we refer to the story from the devotional book – “God Will Make A Way.”1.
Here goes:
“Don Moen was awakened in the middle of the night by a phone call from his mother-in-law – a tragic car accident had just occurred.
Don’s sister-in-law, Susan, her husband, and their four little boys were on an automobile trip when tragedy struck.
They all were seriously injured, and their eight year-old son was dying from his injuries.
As Don and his wife grieved and poured out their hearts to the Lord, they felt helpless to communicate any hope to Susan and Craig.
Don recalls asking the Lord to help him express hope to the family members.
In a very short time, Don scribbled some lyrics and composed the music for a chorus that, to this day, gives believers a deep sense of hope in the midst of difficult times.”
The lyrics read:
“”God will make a way,
Where there seems to be no way;
He works in ways we cannot see,
He will make a way for me.
He will be my guide,
Hold me closely to His side;
With love and strength for each new day,
He will make a way!””
Friends, even now, as you read this weekly thought, we are certain you’ve been touched by the story behind the song.
All the same, you may be going through times of hopelessness and despair.
In fact, you may be confronting a combination of circumstances right now – that bear a likeness to a tragic car accident, with no possible future.
You may even think that God has forgotten you. He hasn’t!
Indeed, the Bible indicates to us that when we’re in over our heads, He’ll be there with us!
When we’re in rough waters, we will not go down.
When we’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end!2.
And consider this, how marvellous, how wonderful it is that each of His children are engraved in the palms of His hands.3.
What’s more, we are always in His thoughts!! Amazing!
And sure-enough, God can do anything, you know – far more than we could ever imagine, or guess, or request in our wildest dreams!4.
For this reason, hold in there!
He will make a road in the desert.
Streams in thirsty lands.5.
So, as you trust in God, hold on to those hope-filled words – words based on His promises.
Then, being confident and assured, expect Him to turn things around for you.
Let this catch your notice! We do not need to know how He will do it – only that He will!
He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way.
And know this, not a day goes by without His unfolding rhythms of grace!6.
And that’s right, he’s our love and strength for each new day.
What a comfort!
Amen? Amen!
