A Mums And Dads Heart:
Howdy friends,
So, you’ve no kids?
Haven’t you ever wanted them?
Aren’t you able to have kids?
You could adopt.
Even foster.
These are the kind of questions and comments we’ve received over the years.
Have you any news?
This last question is probably the most poignant, as we know exactly what they mean, but it’s never direct!
No, we’re not expecting.
We have no children.
And it’s not because we don’t like them!
And whether it’s out of choice, or medical, it’s personal.
The reason is our business!
Even if it’s financial, or practical, whichever, it’s still personal.
Bottom-line, people can be quite nosey!
But, hey, ho!
Just so you know:
Whatever the situation, we love kids.
We absolutely adore them.
And even though we have none of our own, we have a heart for kids.
Yet, it’s amazing how many individuals think we haven’t.
It’s injurious when people think we haven’t a clue.
It’s insulting when many people think we’re totally uninformed about what is going on.
Frequently, the comments can reduce our worth or character – well, that’s how it seems.
Still, you wouldn’t know: is quite often stated.
You don’t understand, you don’t have any adolescent kids of your own: is another.
And what would you know?
You’ve got it easy: is ofttimes the final crunch!
What!
Easy?
Now, don’t get us wrong, and don’t misunderstand us.
We may not have kids.
We may never journey through the life stages of a youngsters growth.
We may never nurture and raise a child.
We may never have direct observation or participation in the building blocks.
The stepping stones.
The mistakes made.
The goals attained.
The many tantrums.
Toothless smiles.
The weary nights.
Bulbous tears running down a smooth face.
The upsetting nightmare.
The dream coming to life.
Numerous awkward questions.
The searching for diplomatic answers.
The loss of position or reputation.
The addiction for adventure.
The disappointing failure.
The sweeping triumphs.
Mountains climbed.
The initial step of the next mile.
Another marathon finished.
We may never experience these complete.
But as mums and dads with no kids, we have a heart.
I mean, we have no kids, but we have a mums and dads heart.
A heart to see kids develop well.
Looking for, and pushing for their progress.
Watching their personalities change.
Giving them a timely word of encouragement.
Having a listening ear – free from preconceived opinions.
Offering help and direction.
Always ready to pass on a life-lesson.
Praying seriously for them.
Sharing our hearts of love, unreservedly.
Working together with our heavenly Pa in shaping their cherished lives.
Each child, radically distinctive and without equal.
You see, from time to time, we’ve engaged ourselves in the lives of many kids.
And we continue to do so.
We do it not by pushing ourselves on them, but by working with them.
Sometimes, from a distance.
Other times, gently alongside them.
Partnering with their parents or guardians.
And we do this because we think they are some of the most amazing people.
Children, a God-given blessing.
Extra-ordinarily precious.
Special.
Oh, yes!
Bringing a life-time of surprises.
Needing dedication.
Love,
David & Rachel.
