Living Beyond The Cliche

Living Beyond The Cliche:

It’s so easy to cherry-pick God’s Word to make a point.

But come on folks!

Wise up!

Know this, words and phrases fail to keep the message that is intended if they are repeated over and again and used incorrectly.

And each of those phrases fall apart, or are in danger of losing value if taken out of context.

Sure, they could be used or manipulated to one’s advantage, be over exploited, and so on.

Furthermore, when we hear something over and over again in the same way, we can become so acquainted with it that the phrase loses its impact.

For this reason, it becomes a cliche.

An obvious remark.

A platitude.

A favourite saying.

Or even a sound bite.

Let me explain:

Listen up!

Hear with intention!

Many times I’ve heard recited words like:

“God is good, all the time.”

And many times I’ve heard the audience respond:

“All the time, God is good!”

And the central meaning of this is true.

However, sometimes, just sometimes, I do wonder, if this kind of activity is no different than rolling off a prime-time catch phrase!

Oh my!

And this is my point:

Frequently, some phrases are in keeping with the facts – straight from the heart of God’s Word.

They’re strong and true.

But, at times, others can be completely ordinary and unremarkable.

Often, they’re not challenging, they become dull and lacking excitement.

Repeated too much, they become over familiar through overuse.

And sadly, for some contemporary men down the average street, those phrases simply do not mean much!

In fact, some sayings do not even make sense!

Consider this, how we voice phrases counts.

It could be so easy to mention them as memorization by repetition with extreme conscientiousness, but subsequently, we could find them lacking spontaneity – becoming exhaustive and tiresome.

Surely, it’s much better to communicate them with impulsiveness and innovativeness – while homing in on real life issues.

Admittedly, some Bible phrases can seemed too distant and irrelevant.

Then again, for those who have read those phrases so much, it becomes “old hat.”

So come, lets begin to live beyond the cliche:

Speaking the truth with as much thought and focus as we can.

At the right time, the right place:

Where everything happens.

Express the vitality and directness.

Let those words bring life.

Long for that God-breathed life.

And let the Word of the Living Message-have the run of the community.

Let’s give it plenty of room in our lives.

Let learning be the new leisure.

Tell it in most sober prose.

Let’s experience the sheer goodness of the Message.

Let the words thrill us like nothing else.

New.

Current.

Fresh.

Understandable.

Impactful again.

And discern wisely.

Speak boldly.

Always coherently.

Say yes!
