Creative Ability:
One of the primary things I have learned from my good friend and colleague Paul Dando, is the importance and significance of “the law of first mention.”
Basically, whenever we want to find out about anything in the Bible, we should search for the moment when it was first mentioned.
All the same, when it comes to the subject of creation, obviously we don’t have to look too far.
Right at the outset of God’s Word, we read:
In the beginning, God created everything: the heavens above and the earth below.
The account then unfolds to give an outline of what happened next.
Indeed, God spoke everything that exists anywhere into existence.
Still, it’s not until a long string of words later that we discover we, humans, are reflections of God’s relational richness.
Sure-enough, we’re made in His image, fashioned according to His likeness.
You see, my point is this, the initial time which identifies who God is, centres on His ability to create.
With perfection and ease, He made everything out of nothing!
And guess what?
We’re imprinted with His features.
So come-on friends!
Let’s imitate God.
Let’s follow Him like adored children.
Surely, we have the exclusive right to display our inherited qualities to the glory of God.
Listen, not only is our ability to create in agreement with the character and divine nature of God, but having that opportunity to do so is given over and again.
In truth, the central meaning of Jesus” life and ministry is a model of one who chose to produce something like nothing done or experienced or created before.
As He did so, He was able to accomplish His purpose.
He functioned effectively.
Meeting each and every need.
And He still does!
Today, God has equipped everyone of us with specific abilities, pulling out all the stops in relation to our social heritage – individuality, previous experience, capability, and adaptability.
In actual fact, we are able to create from the resources round and about us.
More importantly, we are able to create because God, our Father, is our Creator.
And as we aim to be who God specifically created us to be, we show respect towards Him.
For this reason, let’s not allow ourselves to be sculpt into someone else’s idea of what or who we should be.
Instead, as sons and daughters of the Father of love, let’s be everything God intended us to be!
Imaginative.
Innovative.
Inventive.
Yes, let’s take after Him.
Let’s walk in His love.
Let’s continue to live with His relational richness in our hearts.
Let’s start by understanding who we are in God’s eyes.
In other words, as we take hold of our God-given heritage, let’s begin to be creative again.
Let’s connect with the culture we’re in.
And nurture creativity!
Say yes!
