Try Again

Try Again:

You may recognise the phrase, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”

In other words, don’t give up too easily – true determination, perseverance, or merely taking one step at a time pays off in the end.

But there’s a similar quote, which suggests, “If at first you don’t succeed, don’t try parachuting!”

Now, that’s a daunting thought!

Still, have you ever considered how very often you will do many things over and again, and yet, it doesn’t look as if you’re getting anywhere?

Perhaps you’re staggering under the load.

Or possibly, you’ve hit a roadblock.

This applies in all realms of life, including the spiritual!

I do wonder at times, if the things we do over and again, aren’t somewhat, well, religious!

You know, the monotonous, same-way, hymn-sandwich program or event.

Such occurrences could be tediously repetitious or lacking in variety.

Maybe you’ve already directed your questions towards some of these issues, or even considered knocking one or two on the head!

Oh David!

But wait!

Admittedly, you may not want to be so forceful and extreme or rigorous, but you may want to give new consideration to the way in which you do certain things.

You may want to reason why.

Anyhow, I just love how Jesus approached this situation: for when the disciples had been fishing, they came back, homeward bound, exhausted and empty bellied.

They had been out in the cool of the night, all through the night and had caught nothing, not even the smallest of fish!

Yet, Jesus encouraged, try again.

Yes, do what you’re doing, only do it in a new and different way.

For instance, initiate a different time of day.

Move out into deeper water.

Throw your net on the other side.

Be creative, then experience the quality of being productive.

Sure, so that’s it?

Yep, that’s it!

Give it a whirl.

Try, try again!

Don’t quit!

Just remember, you can make a difference.

Simply be yourself.

And learn to trust.
