Cool Your Jets

Cool Your Jets:

She didn’t appear to look at us in the face, but with sheer determination she stepped into the conversation.

We had never met each other before.

Yet, she spent half the time with her nose firmly stuck to her handheld appliance.

She spent the rest of the time with her mind on the conference meeting she had just left!

That was the interaction we had with a health care professional this week.

She just wasn’t listening to us!

Her communication didn’t correspond with ours!

Our concerns were going in one ear and out the other.

She was only interested in her own words!

Her each and every word, almost parrot-like, a mechanical recite, without feeling.

All we could do was try to embrace the wind, and tried we were!

She gave the impression, we were like another object on the conveyor-belt, another baggage on the carousel.

Another number to tally, another box to check.

It seemed pointless being there!

If nothing else, this is what we came to believe on the basis of our own intuitive feelings.

We felt drained of effectiveness, insignificant!

What’s more, I’m certain she didn’t realise I couldn’t see her!

How could she? She never looked my way, not directly anyway!

Even so, with tongue in cheek, I thanked her for her “help,” before pressing on, homeward-bound.

Oh-yes, it wasn’t easy being polite, and I had to exercise self-restraint. .

So much strenuous effort!

Still, deep within me I could sense a small voice saying, “Hush David.”

“Cool your jets!”

“Calm down!”

Even then, in one short moment, I had a conscious awareness of my red hair-follicles being ruffled!

Such botheration!!

Huff!

Yet still, the small voice said, “Shh!”

“Chill out!”

“Settle down!”

Ever been there?

Well, this is what the Bible has to say:

“Harness your desire to speak, and don’t get worked up into a rage so easily

Remember, the more you talk, the more likely you will cross the line and say the wrong thing.

But if you are wise, you’ll speak less, and with restraint.

QUIET-DISCRETION-ACCOMPANIES-GOOD-SENSE.

Simply listen, open your ears.

And guard your words, mind what you say, then you will keep yourself out of trouble.”

Oh-boy!

To some degree, this was a new situation which had occurred before.

For in our circumstance, the voice spoke.

And what an experience to learn something again – as after having forgotten it!

My, oh-my!

So folks, let’s thank heavenly Papa for His timely reminder.

Just think, He gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to His favourites.

And always face to face, within each other’s presence.

Seasoned with grace, we live to tell the story.

But know this, if we don’t have all the wisdom needed for this journey, then all we have to do is ask Papa for it – and He will grant all that we need.

Yep, that’s right!

Just ask and it will be given to you – seek after it and you will find.

Continue to knock and the door will be opened for you.

And finally, let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that we are listening when we are anything-but.

Instead, with open hearts, open eyes, open ears – be alert!

Simples!
