An Attitude Of Gratitude:
Recently Rachel and I received through our letter-box a voucher – which could be used towards the purchase of a coffee machine.
Obviously, if we hadn’t needed a coffee machine, then the voucher would have been worthless.
However, this was ideal for us, as we had planned to purchase a similar product for use in our new computer room.
The voucher, with some additional super-store coupons, gave us the opportunity to purchase the product for a fraction of the original price.
A saving of over 75%!
Whoopee!
As you can imagine, we were extremely thankful in that particular moment – especially as the coffee machine has the ability to also produce tea and chocolate.
Now, we realise that folks don’t go out and purchase a coffee machine every day, but there’s so much more that each of us can be thankful for.
Yes friends, we really should be more thankful for the run of the mill things in life.
Okay, you’re scratching your head, and thinking that those ordinary things are trivial.
Still, have you ever noticed how easy it is to be exceptionally thankful when something beyond what is ordinary or usual happens?
Yet, we take those ordinary things as a given.
But surely, we should have an attitude of gratitude – and be thankful for “all” things!
Furthermore, even as we show our gratitude, we should be alert to the fact that so many of our everyday things can appear to people in other parts of the world as being rich and affluent.
Even that loaf of bread or litre of milk which we take so much for granted!
So, as the best-loved thanksgiving song declares, “Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!”
Let’s not wait until something highly unusual, exceptional or remarkable happens in order for us to be thankful.
Let’s appreciate the everyday things in life.
After-all, we’ve got so much to thank God for!
For example, a roof over our heads, family, friends, health and strength, and the joy that every new day brings!
Sure-enough, there’s so much more to be thankful about.
Let’s sing joyfully to the Lord. Let’s shout happily to the rock of our salvation. Let’s come into His presence with a song of thanksgiving.
Come on friends, when you wake up, even before you fill your coffee cup, always remember to say, “Thank You!”
