Big Blessings

Big Blessings:

Earlier this week, I was listening to Jarrod Cooper on a Christian radio broadcast.

Jarrod began to unravel a story which he reckoned was true.

Well, I’m not certain if it’s true – but if Jarrod reckons it’s true, then it must be!

I’m not sure whether you would have heard it before, but bearing this in mind, the story went something like this.

Allegedly, a celebrity golfer once took part in a series of tournament matches in Saudi Arabia.

The king was so impressed that he planned to give the professional golfer a gift.

As the golfer was getting on the plane to return to the United States, the king stopped him and said, “I want to give you a gift for coming all this way and making this tournament a success. Anything you want. What can I give you?”

Always the gentleman, the golfer replied, “Oh, please; don’t give me anything, it’s really not necessary. You’ve been a generous host. I’ve had a brilliant time. I really couldn’t ask for anything more.”

The king was unsusceptible to persuasion. He said, “No, I insist on giving you a gift so you will always remember your visit to our country.”

Anyhow, when the golfer finally understood that the king was determined, he said, “Okay, fine. I collect golf clubs. Why don’t you give me a golf club?”

Then, in a consecutive manner, the golfer boarded the plane, and nothing else was said.

But, on his flight back home, he couldn’t help but wonder what kind of golf club the king might give him.

He imagined that it might be a solid gold putter with his name engraved on it. Or maybe it would be a quartz wedge studded with diamonds and precious jewels.

However, sometime later, he received a registered letter in his mail, with the title deed to a five-hundred-acre golf course – with trees, lakes, clubhouse, and so on.

Ahem! A golf club?

Yep, you’ve got it, a golf club!

Anyway, as I was listening to Jarrod, I was reminded of a character in the Old Testament. Although he seemed insignificant, I really believe that this little guy knew and experienced something of the hand and blessing of God.

Indeed, Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: “Bless me, o bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection – don’t let evil hurt me.”

And guess what folks, God gave him what he asked!

You see dear friend, Like the king of Saudi Arabia – God isn’t only interested in giving us novelties or showy jewellery – although, I’m sure we’d appreciate them at the time.

No! God is interested in giving us much more than that!

In fact, God is in the business of blessing.

And what a blessing we have in Jesus!

Yes, that’s right! Jesus came, so that we may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance – to the full, running over, until it pours into our laps!

In Jesus, we see the abundance of our Father!

Hey friends! He wants to give to us far more than we could ever imagine or guess or request in our wildest dreams!

Here and now, God our Father wants to give to us the real McCoy – the whole caboodle – nothing else, nothing less!

What a blessing!

What a gift!
